As I’m just about to enter my second trimester with my second pregnancy, I was brought back to the memories of trying to figure out what I really needed when I was pregnant with my son. As with any trimester, there are SO many products out there and it can be really overwhelming trying to figure out what second trimester must haves you actually need during these next few months. While it is true that the second trimester is the easiest of your whole pregnancy, there are a few products that I swear by for helping keep you comfortable. Everything I’ve linked below are products I have actually used and swear by, so you can trust that they are worth the hype!
If you’re a bit earlier on in your pregnancy journey, check out my post on The Ultimate List of First Trimester Must Haves!
This post is all about second trimester must haves.
1. Maternity Clothes
First things first, let’s talk about maternity clothes. Your body is growing, and you deserve to feel good about yourself and comfortable. While you don’t want to go overboard buying maternity clothes because you’ll only be wearing these for a brief period of time, I still think it’s important to invest in a few pieces that are supportive and comfortable.
For maternity leggings, you can’t go wrong with the Zella Mamasana leggings. I also love the super-high rise Lululemon Align leggings for a non-maternity option. I wore these almost my entire pregnancy with my son.
Jumpsuits and rompers are another option I am really liking for this pregnancy. They are in style and super comfortable to wear. I own a few of these from Abercrombie’s YPB athleisure line and I absolutely love them. Pair them with a cute button-up and chunky sneakers and you’ll be good to go!
When it comes to maternity jeans, Abercrombie and Madewell both have great options. I’m not the biggest fan of wearing jeans during pregnancy because they aren’t super comfortable, but it’s good to have a couple of options just in case!
2. Pregnancy Pillow
A pregnancy pillow is key to help you get the restful sleep you need as your belly grows. For this pregnancy, I bought the Momcozy Original F Shaped Pregnancy Pillow, and I’m loving it so far! I especially like the fact the pillow supports your back, hips, and belly but you can use your own pillow instead of having to use the pregnancy pillow which I feel like hurts your neck at times.
3. Belly Oil and Moisturizer
Ah the dreaded stretch marks. Those should start making their appearance at some point in your second trimester. Now don’t get me wrong, I totally get these are natural and a sign of growing a healthy baby, but they are also not pleasant and something I personally try to prevent if I can. To help combat this, I swear by the old school Bio Oil Body Oil and Palmers Cocoa Butter moisturizer. I have also just purchased the Bio Oil Dry Skin Gel and am trying it out in combination with the other two. I’ll report back on the results!
4. Water Tumbler
Staying hydrated is absolutely key throughout pregnancy. I literally never go anywhere without my Stanley – it is a total must-have in my opinion. Stanley has just launched a few new colors as well and they’re all super cute!
5. Healthy Snacks
I feel like my toddler here but I need snacks all throughout the day just to keep my energy levels up. Now don’t get me wrong I love a nice treat every now and again, but I try to keep my snacking pretty healthy where I can. I’ve linked a few of my staples below!
6. Comfortable Shoes
Swollen feet and ankles are no fun. Supportive, comfortable shoes are definitely a must. One big perk right now is that chunky “dad” sneakers are in style and they are extremely comfortable. New Balance has some really cute options that are super comfortable, but they can be really hard to find right now. I bought these Veja’s recently and am absolutely loving them.
For a summer shoe option, these Lululemon slides are super comfortable and provide great support for your feet.
7. Maternity Bras and Underwear
Now these are a DEFINITE post-partum must, but also key to have maternity bras and underwear to keep you comfortable throughout your pregnancy as well. I honestly start wearing nursing bralettes in my second trimester because they’re so soft and way more comfortable than a regular bra. A few faves are linked below. When it comes to underwear, you can’t go wrong with Kindred Bravely.
8. Ice Roller
To help combat swelling in your face, I definitely recommend an ice roller. In my opinion, the Skinny Confidential ice roller is the best on the market – and it’s super cute to keep out on your counter! I pair this with their Ice Queen Facial Oil and implement this as a part of my morning routine every day.
And there you have it! Navigating the second trimester can be an amazing experience with the right preparations. These second trimester must haves have been my go-to items, and they’ve significantly enhanced my comfort and well-being during this phase. Remember, every pregnancy is unique, so listen to your body and consult with your healthcare provider to find what works best for you.
